6-(2-Aminopropyl)benzofuran (6-APB) Information

6-(2-Aminopropyl)benzofuran (also known as 6-APB and “Benzofury”) is an entactogenic substance that is structurally related to other compounds of the same class, such as MDA, MDMA, 5-APB, and 5-MAPB. It was first synthesized in 1993 by David Nichols during research aimed at finding less toxic alternatives to MDMA.

As can be seen from its chemical structure, when compared with MDMA and MDA, 6-APB lacks one oxygen atom. This modification means that it does not produce the same neurotoxic metabolite associated with those compounds. At least through this mechanism, 6-APB may not share the same neurotoxicity profile as its predecessors. However, this structural change also alters its effects.

6-APB is reported to produce effects that are generally less empathogenic than those of MDMA. In some cases, psychedelic-like effects may occur. It is also often described as causing less physical or emotional “comedown” in the days following use.

Note: Much of the available information on 6-APB comes from limited scientific research, animal studies, and user reports. Its safety profile is not fully established, and the long-term health effects remain insufficiently studied.
